About iYYita

Hi! I'm Yonas Kidane and welcome to iYYita (meaning vision/perspective in Amharic), where I showcase my topographic imagery.

My current project came out of my love for observing the surface of the Earth from space. At such a scale and distance (from about 800 kilometers above the Earth), large structures come into view; structures that can only be formed over a long period of time, like valleys and river channels carved by running water over thousands of years, desert sand dunes sculpted over time by relentless wind, or large farm plots and clusters of buildings and road networks giving signs of human activity even though at this distance, no human can be seen. You may find some shapes and structures familiar from this distant perspective; river networks seen from this far away may remind you of tree roots or lightning for example, or clusters of towns/cities and their road networks resembling computer circuitry. Using data from Earth observing satellites, I look for interesting surface features to highlight, and process them with colour schemes and added symmetry.
